There are 16 teams in Romania Liga I. Each team will play home and away games with other 15 teams. The top 6 of the league table participate in the championship play-offs, 7-16 participate in the relegation play-offs; the league with the highest score becomes the champion, and the two teams in the bottom are relegated. The league champion is eligible to participate in the Champions League, and the runner-up, third place and Romanian Cup champions are eligible to participate in the Europa Cup.
