Venezia’s Worst Start Since 2001 Puts Giovanni Stroppa Under Pressure

Venezia are facing a difficult start to their Serie A campaign, with Giovanni Stroppa’s position as head coach increasingly under scrutiny after the team suffered defeats in each of their opening five matches. The club currently sit at the bottom of the table without a single point, having scored only four goals while conceding 13.
The poor run represents Venezia’s worst start to a Serie A season since the 2001/02 campaign. Their inability to turn promising performances into results has intensified concerns around Stroppa, with reports suggesting he could become the third manager dismissed in Serie A this season after Fabio Grosso and Domenico Tedesco.
Venezia’s difficult situation has also been affected by a lengthy injury list. Gianluca Busio, Ridgeciano Haps, Andrea Adorante, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Marin Sverko, Bart Franjic, and former Lazio midfielder Toma Basic are among the players currently unavailable, limiting the options available to Stroppa.
Despite the results, Stroppa believes his team have shown enough quality in several matches to suggest their position does not fully reflect their performances. Venezia have created numerous chances during their opening five fixtures, including against Lazio, but their failure to convert those opportunities has left them without the points their performances might have deserved.
The pressure will now increase as Venezia look for a response in their upcoming fixtures. Stroppa’s future is ultimately dependent on the club’s decision-makers, with results likely to play a major role, while the coach will hope his players can finally turn their opportunities into goals and end the disappointing run.
