Serie A’s New Code of Ethics Set to Reshape Discipline and Fair Play

Lega Serie A has taken a major step toward reform by introducing plans for a new code of ethics that could significantly influence how the league operates. The proposal was discussed during a meeting in Milan, attended by representatives from all 20 top-flight clubs during the international break.
League president Ezio Simonelli emphasized that the new framework will apply broadly across the league, covering players, coaches, directors, and club staff. Although still in its early stages, the initiative is designed to introduce clear and predefined fines for various offenses, reducing reliance on traditional disciplinary processes.
One of the central concerns addressed in the discussions is simulation on the pitch, an issue that has sparked debate in recent matches. A controversial incident involving Alessandro Bastoni and Pierre Kalulu during a clash between Inter Milan and Juventus FC highlighted the urgency of implementing stricter and more consistent punishments.
The proposed code also aims to regulate behavior off the pitch, particularly comments made in post-match interviews that could be deemed offensive or damaging. To enforce these rules effectively, there are discussions about establishing an independent body that would work alongside FIGC and existing disciplinary committees.
This move reflects a broader effort by Serie A authorities to elevate standards of professionalism and accountability across the league. By setting clearer expectations and consequences, the new code of ethics is expected to promote fair competition and reinforce the integrity of Italian football.
